Fickle Ways of Toddlerhood

Age Bracket Predictor

Apples Are:

A) delicious

B) disgusting

C) A on Mondays and C on Sundays

If you selected C you’re a toddler. You’ll probably feel this way about apples (and all other food) for the next few years.

I thought I would write a quick post about toddlerhood today, as it's one of the many pleasures of parenthood (cough, cough, wink, wink). For those of you with a two or three year old, you know what I am talking about. Most parents and literature refer to the terrible twos, but I really think it’s more like the terrible threes (or the “threenager”). This sneaks up on you just when you think you have them all figured out. I remember when my youngest was leaving the disruptive (and lets not forget loving) stage of toddlerhood. He's a teenager now.

So, what is a toddler?

Toddler | Dawn Whittaker

A toddler is a small person who runs everywhere, usually followed by an out of breath adult.

They have brains like sponges, that work so fast even they can't keep up with themselves - this is where most of them get frustrated as they believe they are much more capable of running the house, than you, and in some cases, they are actually running the house.

They often say things over and over again: “Mom, Mommy, Mom, Mommy, Mom, Mommy, Mom, Mom, Mummy, Mummy, Mom, Mom, Mom!”

They get pleasure from the 'why' game. For HOURS.

They love to play the opposite game: you say 'black' they shout "white" you say "yes" they shout 'NO'. Basically, they love to ruffle our parenting feathers.

Their food preferences are fickle. One day they LOVE apple, the next day they HATE apple.

They are very honest, as they only see things in black and white, this innocent honesty is hilarious.

The toddler phase is a test of your patience and your marriage, for these little beings, as difficult as they can be, can melt your heart in a matter of seconds.

Enjoy those little cheekychops!
